Vendor Specific Fields and Other Ways 802.11 Is Corrupted, ahem, Enhanced
Have you ever wondered how those "vendor specific" fields in the various 802.11 information elements are used? Have you ever wondered what would happen if LoRa and WiFi had a baby? Are you a rebel who likes to push or even cross the boundary of what's legal (in the standard)?
In this talk, we will survey various ways 802.11 is "customized" or "extended" or otherwise manipulated in both real world and theoretical ways. Topics will include a proposed "WiLo" technology that manipulates an 802.11 radio to be able to communicate with a LoRa radio running at 2.4GHz as well as the ESP-NOW protocol available for ESP32 based microcontrollers which basically use the Action frame as a Data frame while at the same time having a "long range" variant. Where we can, we will provide real world data and examples of these along the way.
