Laser Beams and Reality Capture - Designing Wi-Fi for a Professional Basketball Venue | PRG 26

In this presentation, I’ll take you behind the scenes of a technically demanding Wi-Fi deployment in a basketball arena for 18,000 fans. The existing network was failing, and I will go in depth on what I found and the techniques we used to install a new Wi-Fi network for the venue.

I’ll walk through how we used a laser-guided “backpack” mount system to precisely aim directional antennas serving seats and VIP areas up to 100 feet away. I’ll cover custom hardware and software used for this environment, Reality Capture for AP placement and validation, and the real-world challenges of working in a live venue.
