Wi-Fi surveys have always focused on measuring the RF environment. With Wi-Fi 8, understanding the RF environment alone may no longer be enough to predict client performance.

Signal strength, SNR, channel utilisation and coverage are still fundamental, but client devices will become increasingly dynamic in how they use the medium. Capabilities such as coordinated AP operation, smarter Multi-Link Operation, enhanced rate adaptation, unequal modulation, flexible spectrum allocation and more could change how we design, validate and troubleshoot Wi-Fi networks.
